WEBRING
"A collection of websites linked together in a circular structure, and usually organized around a specific theme, often educational or social. They were popular in the 1990s and early 2000s, particularly among amateur websites."
As a young kid who first experienced the internet via my Elementary School Computer Lap, my first introduction to Webrings were as innocent as they come. Ask Jeeves was the HOT search engine aside from Yahoo!, but the best way to explore the net was through the Webring and affiliation links on each hand-tailored webpage. Clicking on the webring link would take you to a different site of similar flavor, creating a rabbit hole that might take hours to explore. My favorite form of these Webrings were those created for fandom sake.
It's 2021 and they are now making a come back during a time where social media and the public nature of Fandom and Pop culture are making it harder and harder to share what you love with the people who love it too. Entitlement to content makes the old days of fandom seem like a lifetime away. But you can still carve a place out for yourself even now. Begin the rabbit hole crawl below!
